History

Previously owned by the Canadian Helicopter Corporation (CHC Scotia), Yarmouth Heliport has re-opened with a fresh vibrant program of structured change and investment.

With a focus on re-energising the site for aviation, to include the growing market for micro-lights and drones, along with research & development, teaching and training activities.

There had been private fixed-wing flying from North Denes since 1950, but helicopter flying began there on 22 April 1965, formerly used as a base for services to the gas platforms in the southern North Sea.

The Plan

…being brought forward in consultation with Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Norfolk County Council, is to generate a year-round economy for the area and local communities, by developing an aviation, technology, science and enterprise centre.

Supporting

…North Denes Airfield is already contributing to the local economy by appointing Planning, Architectural and Engineering professionals to address its underuse and realise its business, community and recreational potential, with the aim of delivering a thriving centre of aviation, R&D and technology excellence, in accordance with a site-wide Master Planning framework.

We are already engaging locally based trades people to maintain the site, and repair and refurbish the offices, storage, workshop and hangar buildings, in order to plan for future employment opportunity and growth, in association with the Borough Council’s update of the Local Plan.

We now offer

…a range of storage solutions (including secure containers), along with refurbished offices to-let for ambitious local enterprises, to further drive the local economy and showcase Great Yarmouth’s strengths as a business location.

And beyond

Yarmouth Heliport is maintaining and transitioning the strong aviation hallmark with the help of CAA to welcome drones, micro-lights and visiting rotary and fixed wing aircraft that can operate on a 600m illuminated grass runway.

The expansive effect will take time to evolve, perhaps a few years’, but it is clear with increasing interest in drones that a purposeful Drone Centre where someone can hone their skills from recreational novice to hour-building professional pilot with near limitless earning potential would help professionalise the fledgling industry. Yarmouth Heliport aims to be the first such center

nationally to practice your trade-craft, convert flight theory and training to experience, and increase exam-rate successes. The site is ideally placed to host ‘aviation centric’ trade events, product trade shows and exhibitions – both outdoors and under cover – including general public open-weekend markets.
